Dead Animal Removal in Macon-Bibb County, Georgia
Macon-Bibb's own request form states the rule in two sentences. "Dead animals are removed from public road ways only." "Dead animals are not removed from private property." County code also keeps dead animals out of garbage containers, which narrows what you can do with one in your yard.
Calls to this Georgia line go to this site's routing line, which passes them to an independent operator where one covers the area. We do not remove animals ourselves, and an operator for your Macon-Bibb address is not guaranteed.
Who picks up a dead animal in Macon-Bibb County?
Macon-Bibb Solid Waste, from public roads only. The county's request type for dead-animal pickup says: "Dead animals are removed from public road ways only." It also says: "Dead animals are not removed from private property." County code adds that dead animals "shall not be placed in garbage containers," so a carcass in your yard or under your house is yours to dispose of some other way or to hire out. Solid Waste is at (478) 803-0499.

On a road, street or public land
Macon-Bibb takes dead-animal reports through a Solid Waste request type, "S-WASTE: Animal Dead Pickup Request", and its scope is short: "Dead animals are removed from public road ways only." The form asks, "Where is the exact location of the animal?" The Solid Waste Department's number is (478) 803-0499. No fee is stated on the request type. For heavy dead animals such as cows, horses and mules, county code 22-15 says the owner disposes of them at their own expense, by the method the director of solid waste directs. On an interstate, U.S. highway or state route, Georgia law gives the Department of Transportation the duty to remove dead animals within the rights of way of highways maintained wholly or partly with state funds (O.C.G.A. 4-5-4). We found no GDOT page that sets out a dead-animal reporting line, and none of the Macon-Bibb pages we read prints a GDOT number.
In a yard, under a deck or in a crawl space
The same request type answers the private-property question: "Dead animals are not removed from private property." That covers a dead animal in a yard, a driveway, a deck and the space under a house. County code 22-15, from Ordinance O-15-0059 of 2015, contains an older line saying small dead animals "may be picked up by the division of solid waste upon request," and a fee may be charged. The live request type, read on 2026-10-01, is narrower. This page follows the request type as current practice; if you think the older code line fits your case, ask Solid Waste at (478) 803-0499.
For an animal under a deck, in a crawl space or in an attic, the county's answer is the same private-property line. If the animal can be reached without cutting into finished walls or ceilings, you or a private remover can take it out, keeping the garbage-container rule below in mind. For a dead bear, alligator, hawk, eagle, owl or other bird of prey, call DNR (1-800-366-2661); DNR also asks for a call about a protected species such as a bald eagle, and we found no Georgia guidance on a bear or alligator found dead on private land. Bats: DPH says it is best never to handle any bat; if a person or pet may have been exposed, call the county health department. A smell coming from a closed wall is covered on dead animal smell in a wall. Nothing arranged through this site involves opening drywall, plaster or a ceiling.
A dead deer in Macon-Bibb County
The roadway request type states no size limit; ask Solid Waste about a deer. A deer in a yard is on private property, and the county says it does not remove dead animals from private property. Under code 22-15, no dead animal goes in a Macon-Bibb garbage container, a deer included. Georgia DNR's hunter page says smaller deer parts "can be bagged and thrown in household garbage containers". The two do not line up, so ask Solid Waste before putting any part of a deer in a county container. Statewide, Georgia's deer carcass rule (Ga. Comp. R. & Regs. 391-4-2-.19), in force since June 25, 2025, makes it unlawful to dispose of a deer carcass anywhere other than "the property on which the deer was killed" unless an approved method is used; the approved methods include a commercial deer processor, a permitted solid waste landfill, burial, incineration, rendering or composting. We found no guidance on how the rule applies to a deer that dies on its own in a yard. Ask DNR's Wildlife Resources Division: 1-800-366-2661. See dead deer removal.
Trash, landfill and burial
County code 22-15 says: "Dogs, cats or any other dead animals shall not be placed in garbage containers." Bagging a squirrel and dropping it in the cart is therefore against county code. That leaves burial where local code allows it, a landfill or a private remover. We found no Macon-Bibb page on burial rules, landfill acceptance or carcass fees, so ask Solid Waste before you haul one. The statewide background is in how to dispose of a dead animal.
What that means for you
In Macon-Bibb the dividing line is the edge of the public road. On the road, request a Solid Waste pickup. Off it, the county does not remove the animal and its code keeps carcasses out of garbage containers, so plan on burial where local code allows it, a landfill or a private remover. Independent operators set their own prices; price and availability are settled on the call.
Macon-Bibb's code and its request form
Macon-Bibb's dead-animal rules come from two places that do not read the same. Section 22-15 of the county code dates from Ordinance O-15-0059 in 2015 and appears in the Municode supplement of July 21, 2026. It bars dead animals from garbage containers, leaves heavy animals such as cows, horses and mules to the owner, at their own expense and by the method the director of solid waste directs, and says small dead animals "may be picked up by the division of solid waste upon request", with a fee possible. The county's live SeeClickFix request type, "S-WASTE: Animal Dead Pickup Request", is narrower: removal from public road ways only, and nothing from private property. We read both on 2026-10-01. The request type is what Solid Waste shows the public today, so this page follows it. The code line is quoted so you can raise it with Solid Waste, whose site lists the department at (478) 803-0499, if your situation fits its wording.
